We are absolutely delighted to announce we have been awarded Pub of the year 2017 from Cornwall’s CAMRA Branch.
… and from their website
“After a year of tastings being recorded by CAMRA members visiting Cornish Pubs a selection of 62 pubs were selected to feature in this years Good Beer Guide. A second call was made to all Cornish Members to nominate their favourite pubs in the county. Of the 600 pubs in the county the top 1% of just 6 were identified and covertly judged by a team of dedicated volunteers. The pubs were judged primarily on beer quality but the was also a focus on service, the welcome received, community focus, overall experience and a sympathies with CAMRAs aims. The Judging scores were exceedingly close as you would expect with the pubs in the county. The winner was identified and Robin and his team at the Old Ale House were identified as the Champions being crowned CAMRA Kernow Pub of the Year 2017.”
“The presentation was awarded in front of a packed Old Ale House Crowd, where regulars and CAMRA members raised a glass from the Range of Skinner’s ales and cider to celebrate the Pubs achievement.”
“Bob Bunce the Branch Chairman credited the quality of the ale and warm welcome that is always received as the key to the pubs success, stating it that its great to a traditional style public house in the counties capital raise to the top of its class. The ale house is Skinner’s Brewery tap and Robin the Pub manager credited his staff, regulars and the great beer for support in making this landmark achievement.”
“Steve Skinner of Skinner’s Brewery gave an introduction to his love of the Old Ale House from days where he had previously owned Tipsy Toad Brewery in Jersey when the pub had originally caught his eye, through to the present day where the pub is about to become free of tie from Enterprise Inns allowing the pub to serve a full range of Skinner’s ales, cider and lager. He kindly dedicated the achievement on behalf of Robin and the team to a friend of the pub who is no longer with us, Terry Walker. Jenny Walker acknowledging the dedication on behalf of her husband.”
“Many glasses were raised and some fantastic pasties were sampled, as the great rugby news that the Cornwall had beaten Hertfordshire and won their game winning their place in Twickenham….with the Skinners very own Betty Stogg’s at the heart of the celebrations. A massive congratulations to The Old Ale house our 2017 winners. Please do keep scoring those beers on whatpub.com to ensure we always have the best pubs in the county featured in the good beer guide and holding the title of Pub of the Year!”
